Suresh's research group is interested in understanding how plants respond to changes in ambient temperatures. Even small changes in ambient growth temperatures have substantial impact on plant growth and development. The underlying molecular mechanisms are not well understood. Increase in ambient temperatures can increase hypocotyl elongation, petiole elongation and induce flowering. There are varied mechanisms proposed to explain temperature-induced flowering in Arabidopsis. He will present recent findings from his work, which describes a role for histone deacetylation in thermal responses of Arabidopsis thaliana.
