Title 1: Genetic improvement for phosphorus efficiency in crops: mechanisms and application
Speaker: Prof. Hong Liao, Root Biology Center, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University
Time: 9:30 am
Day/Date: April 12th, 2021 (Monday)
Host: Prof. Chao-Feng Huang
Venue: PSC Auditorium

Abstract:
Phosphorus (P) is an essential element for all living organisms. Because P fertilizers are a non-renewable resource and high fixation of P in soils, sustainable agriculture requires researchers to improve crop P efficiency. In the presentation, I will summarize what we have done on the mechanisms of genetic improvements for P efficiency in crops using soybean as an example, and will introduce the application of P efficient soybean cultivars in tea plantation.

Title 2: Novel functions of magnesium in photosynthesis and nitrogen fixation
Speaker: Prof. Zhichang Chen, Root Biology Center, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University
Time: 10:30 am
Day/Date: April 12th, 2021 (Monday)
Host: Prof. Chao-Feng Huang
Venue: PSC Auditorium

Abstract:
Magnesium (Mg) is essential for both plant growth and human diets. Mg nutrition in plants has become an important issue not only for food security but also for human health. Mg is involved in various metabolisms as not only a structural component but also a regulatory factor. The dual roles of Mg nutrition help plants achieve higher photosynthetic efficiency, nitrogen use efficiency and stress resistance. Here we present our recent findings on Mg functionality in photosynthesis and nitrogen fixation.

The seminars will be delivered in Chinese.
